Goddesses

This work was conceived when someone asked me to do the poster for the first Dark Equinox Festival. Nevertheless, when it was almost finished, the request was revoked.
The festival was celebrated the last October in Madrid, but my ladies were a bit orphaned.

I don't think they care too much.

TAROT: IX. The Heremit

(100 x 65 cm, acrílicos/acrylics)

IX.

Somebody told him once that the light was in fact inside his eyes.

It's been a long time, and still he hasn't found it. But he will, someday (through when he asked her, she just smiled and said nothing).

That's all people know.

Apuntes VII

El mismo joven retratado en Apocalypse, please.
Debería hablar seriamente con él.

The same young man drawn in Apocalypse, please.

I should talk to him
seriously.

The old ones

There are rejected beauties, unique fragments of human reality that this society is determined to despise and, in a display off sincere effort, to conceal.
I'm talking about the old ones, the elderly people, genuine landscapes in motion, keepers of the torn and antique beauty of the skin stories.

Mostly are images I took from internet, inexhaustible source, choosing them because of their "elderlity" and not for hiding it behind cosmetics and computers.

Aren't they beautiful...?

Not so old, but pixie like.

Soy absolutamente inocente.

And yes, with a few retouch almost unconscious, this affable gentleman turn into the sarcastic Wednesday, Neil Gaiman's character in American Gods.

He did it himself. I am absolutely innocent.

Apuntes VI

It’s time for uploading sketches again.
I did this frist one in the pazo that belonged to Emilia Pardo Bazán, in Santa Cruz, A Coruña. It’s part of a splendid castle located in a little island near the beach, and until two years ago you could only get there when the tide was low (personally, I prefered it so, without a bridge: now the magic of the ephemereal is excluded). The pazo is full of trees and surrounded with a wall, and it’s a very beautiful sight.
This specific tiny tower mesmerized me. It wasn’t like it was especially diferent form the other tiny towers, but as a whole, chromatically, it was of a simple majesty: the cloudy sky was pale grey, calm. The stones, in a hundred grey and blue colors, were covered by lichen and spattered by herbs. The leaves that stained the floor were of a furious red, intense, and formed a pile almost incendiary on the tower’s entry. Inside the profound blackness of the tower, a line of the whitest light broke the darkness like a stab executed by a mad artist who wanted to point out that it was a sacred place.

I know that all these things are not properly shown in my humble sketch. But you have to try something when you face the fascination...

Farewell

Two weeks ago, the 16th September, a wonderful person who I loved very much died unexpectedly.

He was always a gentlemen, I think half knight-errant half juglar, with a radiant smile and those gestures of his hands which drew words in the air.

I know he wouldn't like a sad drawing por his departure. I think he rather liked the little and modest fragments of hope. So here we've got a white girl of kind smile, with fire in her hair and music in her fingertips.

Once he called me good witch.

The last time I saw him, he told me he was happy.

I'm going to miss him so much.

Little Gods

Somebody told me that they looked like little gods.
So probably they are.

Remembering the past, and some colored balloons.

Apocalypse, please

No pude evitar intentarlo.

I discovered almost by chance some photos of a young man who had an splendid anathomy and deliciously steam-punk clothing, with some tribal shade, beautiful. One specific photo, of an apocalyptic atmosphere, completely captivated me: It looked like a drawing itself.
I couldn´t help trying.

If I found out the web of this joung man again, I'll write the link down here: After all, this is absolutey his work.

Apuntes V

Recently inspired by the exposition dedicated to Alphonse Mucha at the Caixaforum of Madrid. There I discovered some beautiful sketches, hardly divulgued, that have gone practically unnoticed given the overwhelming fame of his posters.
Personally, the exquisite and expressive line present in Mucha's drawings fascinated me much more that his overexploited lithographies.

That means that I'm dying to do sketches again.

¿verdad...?

Como hace tiempo.

Some things have broken for me today.

Proyectos: Tiempo e Identidad

Tiempo.

Time.

In time, all faces remind you of other faces; all situations remind you of other situations. You smile when you meet a person because her smile reminds you of that smile somebody you loved had.

In time, you go along accumulating people,

lovers,

pains,

abandonments,

farewells,

deaths.

Time is the things you go along accumulating over your back, until the weight of all of them turns you into a hunched figure, like a question mark.

This is a little proyect about time, a short lapse of it (five years) that can become a lifetime. Or one of the lives we live, repeated with slight variations over the years.

The world was soft, in those days. Words were tenuous just like smiles and tears. She knew her place, faded and diluted; she knew about gentleness, sweetness and ductility. The world was pale, of a cold beauty. It didn´t matter the extremes, she didn't know about ends and beginnings.

In those days, the world was soft.

She built herself with the pain and the love and the darkness. Love was clear. Darkness too. She thought she was sure of who she was after the tearing, after the white moments; sure of having completed herself at last. She was, and she was entire just for breathing that person, having her close, watching her laugh, cry, dream, pretend. Her sadness was her sadness. Her terror was her terror. Her happiness was her happiness.

Her obscurity was her light.

Her death was her death.
The farewell came abrupt and sharp like a mirror glass, acid like a kiss of fury. Double. Triple. She bled so much that she thought she was breaking up by the center. Things began to be raw. Darkness was the same thing that light. Everything started to collapse then, and nothing was what she had tought. Not even her.
The pain began gradually to teach her its stridency. The absence began to grow in the emptiness. But the worst, the most terrible thing, was that love continued.
Something broke then. And it was her.

She was one with things. The absence taught her that solitude did not exist. The pain taught her that actually she had no skin, and that was why everything went through her like wires like screams and they were inside her and colour her with star explosions and she went through everything. Everything was telling her something. But she wasn't able to understand it. She knew she had a name, but she wasn´t able to keep it. She discovered that it was easier to surrender to what was stroving to went through her nonexistent skin.

There she could dance. She could laugh.

It wasn´t because it released her from the pain.

There everything hurt.

But it was more beautiful.
